Kākoʻo o Kanaka Maoli Kūlanakauhale a me Hale Hōʻikeʻike.

Help support our museum and living village.

How to help

There are lots of ways that almost anyone in the community can help.  We are always accepting clean non-diseased foliage from indigenous plants.  We also accept cash donations for the center directly at 399 Hualani Street, #19A Hilo, HI  96720

We are looking for people in the community that know how to weave, make Kapa, tend fishing lines, storytellers, make leis, or anything that would contribute to the enrichment of this community.  If you would like to donate your time to teaching others your craft, please let us know!

What we do

The easiest way to describe what we do is simple.  Education.

  • Education of Hawaiian values and rights

  • Education of self-sustainability through progressive land management and uses for the Kanaka Maoli.

  • Education for children and adults in Mele, Hula, Crafts, fishing, gardens/agriculture, lei making, and traditional oral histories as told by elders.

  • History lessons and ʻŌlelo classes for the community (at which time the state and county deem it safe)

  • On the job training for Office work, Construction, and agriculture.

Sponsoring schools so that they can have free hands-on learning here at the village and the center.

Being able to offer our village and museum for teaching experiences for the local schools is what we are striving for.  We are opening our doors for the Luau experience and the living village to tourists helps us to achieve those ends.  We want to be able to bring the children to us and give them experiences in a working living village that helps create knowledge and confidence for Hawaii’s children.  We want to help bridge the gap between the land, the ancestors, and our Keiki to bring a new mindset to fortify the old ways and create a better understanding of our unique culture that will hopefully pass on through the generations.
